Curious Species
Wildlife Wednesdays Series
Presented by
Wildlife Music Collective
An evening of song & stories inspired by our eternal link
to the world of plants
Wildlife Music Collective co-founders Concetta Abbate,
Charlie Rauh and Jesse Greenberg present the second show in their 6-month residency, "Wildlife Wednesdays" at Alchemical Studios.
Charlie Rauh will join improviser, author, and philosopher David Rothenberg in exploring the relationship humans and animals have with music. Performances from Rauh’s “Theoria” Interspecies wellness-oriented solo guitar lullabies commissioned by LSU School of Veterinary Medicine), and Rothenberg’s “Secret Sounds of Ponds” (recently published book and sonic experience exploring the music created by pond dwelling creatures) will be intertwined with discussion and spontaneous improvisation to examine how music holds a singular reverence in the natural world.
WILD LIFE is a music collective exploring our interspecies relationships with plants and animals. We seek to highlight the effects of climate change and the importance of drawing attention to our natural environment. We explore the ways in which animal and plant consciousness demonstrates empathetic sentience. Featuring music by three award-winning composer/performers Concetta Abbate, Jesse Greenberg and Charlie Rauh.

The Amazing Doctor She Medicine Show reveals the history of misogyny in western medicine. Oops, we mean the history of women in western medicine! (Somehow we always get those two things mixed up!)
Join our quest to recover Doctor She’s “Miracle Cure,” a wellness supplement lost since the 13th Century, much like the story of the doctor herself. In a madcap blend of humor, games, speculative fiction, interactive games and totally gross medical facts, we’ll share the incredible history of this extraordinary literary figure from Bocaccio and Shakespeare. And for a reasonable fee, we might even cure you!

and produced by Isabelle Russo.

I Will Dance With Those
Oak Trees As Long as
Presented by
CP4P International Productions
I need a street
Empty of bloodstains,
A street that has never seen
Or known terror.
Let it be flawless, les it be flawless, flawless
Like the sex of these girls that are killed unjustly
Let it be long, let it be long, long,
Like their agony.
- Kajal Ahmad
In March of 1988 in Halabja, Iraq, Saddam Hussein’s regime committed an atrocious genocide of Kurdish peoples through the use of chemical weapons. Set in a carpet store at this time, I will dance with those oak trees as long as takes us on a poetic voyage into the life of three Kurdish women, inspired by the poetry of Kajal Ahmad and the characters Gilgamesh, Enkidu, and Ninsun from the world’s most ancient epic poem: Gilgamesh. Carpets, chairs, and strings create the environment in which two actresses interpret the three different women and how they react to a violent and unstable outside world.
Accompanied by soundscapes inspired by traditional Kurdish music, this international duo uses objects, puppets, and a multilayered world of reality, dreams, memories, and visions to explore the question of what it means to be a hero when you have no other choice.
Performed by Audrey Rose Dégez & Daria Holovchanska
Audrey Rose Dégez - Producer, Playwright, Director, Actress
Daria Holovchanska - Puppet Master, Lighting & Sound Designer, Movement & Object Director
